What Is Artificial Grass?

Artificial grass, in simple terms, is a layer made of synthetic fibers that mimics the look and function of real grass.

Astroturf, also known as artificial grass, was first used in the Houston Astrodome in the 1960s. Artificial grass has been through many transformations since then. It started out as a plastic-looking ground covering in a few stadiums. Now it is something completely different!

Artificial grass is known by many names, including fake grass, synthetic turf, synthetic grass and faux grass. Artificial grass products today are a realistic and affordable alternative to real grass. They are also low-maintenance, eco-friendly, and cost-effective. Fake grass is a popular choice for homeowners in Texas and throughout the United States.

Artificial grass is much more than the blades of synthetic grass. It’s also a complete landscape system. To give the lawn the appearance of natural grass, it is made up of yarn or fibers that have been tufted or quilted onto a backing.

Easy to Maintain

Basic Care For Your Artificial Turf

✔ Brush your turf with a power broom to keep the blades standing up straight. Areas exposed to high traffic may require more brushing than others. Brush the grass against the grain in high-traffic areas, which will help avoid matting.

✔ Regularly remove the organic materials by hand & rinse the artificial turf surfaces with a hose. Rake & brush when needed.

✔ Flush the areas that have been exposed to urine/waste with a hose. If you notice any unpleasant odors a mixture of distilled vinegar & water or odor eliminator can be used to neutralize them.

✔ When removing feces be sure to remove from the surface, and do not hose the feces into the turf.

✔ Weeds can grow on the edges, but we do our best to prevent them by removing the right amount of demolition. The best way is to pull them as soon as you see any or spraying perimeter with a product that eliminates weeds, always follow product instructions.

✔ A 5% solution of warm water and household detergent is all you need to remove most minor stains. Tougher stains may require a 3% a solution of ammonia & water. Rinse away any remaining soap or ammonia with cold water. These solutions remove a wide range of stains, including these common ones: coffee, tea, ketchup, fruit and vegetable juice, alcohol, butter, latex paint, blood, urine, mustard, glue, butter, soda, milk, ice cream, and even dye.

✔ Use mineral spirits or grease spot remover (like dry cleaning solution) for tougher stains. Lightly soak a washcloth then carefully apply to the stain. These type of stain removers are ideal for the following: chewing gum, cooking oil, asphalt, tar, lipstick, crayon, grease, motor oil, floor wax, shoe polish, ballpoint pen ink, paraffin wax, suntan oil, and nail polish.

✔ Blot up small liquid stains with a paper towel or washcloth. You can also cover them with a dry absorbent product like kitty litter. After it’s absorbed the liquid, vacuum or sweep it away. Then, rinse your turf to get rid of the kitty litter scent.

✔ Tree Sap: If sap gets stuck in your lawn, purchase some aerosol refrigerant from a carpet-cleaning supplier. You can also use dry ice. Freeze the sap, then scrape it away. This process also works for chewing gum if mineral spirits or grease spot remover don’t work.

✔ Fungus or Mold: Apply a 1% hydrogen peroxide in water solution with a soft sponge to any fungus or mold you notice. Then, slowly and carefully clean it away with water.

✔ Never use a power washer. A sprinkler hose is a better way to rinse, allowing the water to saturate the surfaces, and then drain through. Use a hose and spray nozzle to freshen up turf if you live in areas with scarce rain.

✔ Avoid using products that contain chlorine bleaches or caustic cleaners (pH above 9), as well acidic cleanses (pH below 5).

✔ Keep them away from lit cigarettes or open flames, as these substances are flammable. You also want to make sure they don’t get below the turf surface. They could damage the layers beneath the blades.

✔ Don’t lay hot landscape tools on turf, the motor will melt the turf.

✔ Be careful when moving sharp furniture, edges may puncture.

✔ Don’t let parked vehicles idle on the lawn. A car may leave behind auto fluid stains.
